Quotes from "Grand Canyon"

I was just watching Grand Canyon, and the following couple of quotes really stop and made me think:

"The thing that got me was sitting right on the edge of that big old thing, those rocks, and those cliffs and rocks are so old. It took so long for that thing to get to look like that, and it ain't done either, it happens right while youre sitting there watching it. Its happening right now while we're sitting here in this ugly town. When you sit on the edge of that thing you just realize what a joke we people are, what big heads we've got thinking that what we do is going to matter all that much. Thing is, our time here means diddly to those rocks. Its just a split second we've been here, the whole lot of us. And one of us? Thats a piece of time too small to get a name... Those rocks are laughing at me, I can tell. Me and my worries, its real humorous to that Grand Canyon. You know what I felt like? I felt like a gnat that lands on the ass of a cow thats chewing its cud next to the road that you ride by on at 70 miles an hour."

"The world doesn't make any sense to me anymore. What's going on? There are babies lying around in the streets; there are people living in boxes; there are people ready to shoot you if you look at them; and we are getting used to it! The world is so nuts it makes me wonder about all of the choices that we've made."

Those quotes really made me stop and think. We havent been here for but a blink, and in another blink we'll be gone. After that blink is up, all that we have done for ourselves will be worthless. You can't take it with you. All that will be left is the legacy of that you have done for (or to) others. Long after the pebble sinks, the ripples remain on the surface of the pond.
